Wetwheels Yorkshire
Building disabled people’s confidence
Wetwheels builds disabled people’s confidence by providing the opportunity to access the sea in a fun, safe, stimulating and rewarding way using specially modified, fully accessible powerboats.
With the support of our donors and partner organisations we provide water-based activity experiences for disabled people on board our specially designed boats, from centres within local communities.
We are constantly being told to “do more sport”. Many of the more traditional sports are well funded and barriers to particpation are low, particularly for disabled people.
Until recently, many water sports have been inaccessible to people with disabilities, particularly activities on the sea and around local coastlines.
In addition to the obvious benefits of taking part in sport, participating in sports whilst on the water adds and extra dimension to the health and wellbeing benefits.
Fresh air and a different, ever-changing environment, make the sea a unique playing field where everyone is equal, regardless of ability.
Wetwheels provides two main sporting activities; sea angling and powerboating.
